How to Study for the SIE in 2 Weeks (2026)

Reflects FINRA’s current SIE content outline and Regulatory Notice 26-18 · Last reviewed November 2026 · Verify at finra.org

TL;DR. Two weeks is workable, and for candidates with a finance background it’s a normal runway, if you triage by FINRA’s outline: two sections carry 75% of the scored questions. The plan: a diagnostic on day one, Products & Risks and Trading & Accounts first, short daily sessions with reviews at about 1, 3 and 7 days, one timed 105-minute set, and sleep. If the diagnostic shows you’re starting from zero across the board, consider moving your date: a fail means a wait (30 days today, 15 days from January 19, 2027) and the $100 fee again, and your enrollment window is 120 days. Confirm at FINRA’s SIE page.

Triage by the official weights

Per FINRA’s content outline, the SIE has 75 scored questions plus 5 unscored, in 105 minutes. (Confirm at FINRA.)

The regulatory section is the one anxious candidates over-study because it feels most exam-like. It’s seven questions. Products are thirty-three.

How Trelos does this

Trelos quizzes you before each lesson and skips the lesson when you get the questions right; what you got confidently wrong is re-taught first; and every concept comes back for review about 1, 3 and 7 days after you learn it — the same rhythm as the plan above. The SIE track covers 249 questions across 35 concepts in FINRA’s four sections. The first topics are free with no sign-up to start. Full access is a $19 launch price through Nov 30, 2026 ($39 after): one payment, 12 months.

Pass guarantee: learn every concept in your track and keep up your scheduled reviews, and if you still don’t pass, your access is extended free — three more months per attempt — until you do. It’s an extension, not a refund.

FAQ

Can I study for the SIE in one week?
With a finance background, a disciplined week (diagnostic, Products and Trading daily, one timed set, sleep) is realistic. From zero, a week is cramming the exam’s largest section, and the retake wait makes a miss expensive.
What should I do the night before the SIE?
Light review of your weakest product rules, confirm your test-center or online-proctoring setup, sleep normally. No new material.
Should I reschedule?
If your diagnostic shows little familiarity with products and accounts, yes: a fail costs a wait and the $100 fee again. Your enrollment window is 120 days, so moving the date is usually cheap; reschedule before the deadline in your appointment confirmation and confirm the rules at FINRA.
Do I need a sponsor, and what’s the retake wait?
No sponsor: anyone 18 or older can enroll. After a fail, FINRA requires 30 days before the second and third attempts and 180 days after a third. From January 19, 2027 those drop to 15 and 60 days (FINRA Regulatory Notice 26-18). See the SIE guide.
